Kevin O’Sullivan

Kevin O’Sullivan
ChairmanKevin brings to Playfair unique experience and skills from an executive career that has spanned over 40 years, both in Australia and Canada.
Kevin’s most recent executive role was CEO of UniSuper, one of Australia’s leading superannuation funds. During his 8 years as CEO, in addition to being responsible for the strategic direction of the fund and overseeing more than 800 employees, Kevin served as a Director of the UniSuper Management Pty Ltd Board and as a member of UniSuper’s Investment Committee.
UniSuper’s market-leading performance during Kevin’s tenure was broadly recognised through industry awards, and he was named the FEAL Fund Executive of the Year in 2020.
Prior to this role , Kevin was a Director at Russell Investments (formerly Towers Perrin) where he was Consulting Actuary providing advice to many of Australia’s leading corporate employer sponsored superannuation funds including those of BHP, Telstra, Australia Post and BlueScope Steel.
Through his distinguished career, Kevin has established himself as one of the most respected practitioners in the Australian superannuation industry.

Simon Hudson

Joint CIO, DirectorSimon has over 35 years of experience in superannuation investment, funds management and financial markets.
Prior to Playfair, Simon served as Head of Equities for over 12 years at UniSuper, one of the largest and consistently highest returning superannuation funds in Australia. Whilst at UniSuper he was responsible for the fund’s domestic and international fundamental strategies, including both internally and externally managed portfolios totalling over $60bn of assets. This involved building an internal investment management capability, with UniSuper now widely recognised as a market leader in this area. Simon remains UniSuper’s representative on the Investment Committee of Uniseed, UniSuper’s largest venture capital investment.
Before UniSuper, Simon was Head of Australian Equities at QIC, one of Australia’s largest institutional investment managers, and prior to that Senior Portfolio Manager of Australian Equities at Colonial First State, where he managed a range of portfolios for both institutional and retail clients totalling approximately $9bn of assets.

Mark Himpoo

Joint CIO, DirectorMark brings to Playfair more than 30 years of experience in equity markets, mostly in senior positions with leading asset management institutions in Australia.
His most recent asset management role was as Senior Manager, Equities at UniSuper.
Mark played a key role in UniSuper’s transformation, which saw UniSuper amongst the first to pioneer the successful “internalisation” of direct investment.
He was responsible for managing a $4bn Australian Equities portfolio within UniSuper. Mark also played a leading role in developing UniSuper’s proactive Capital Markets strategy.
Prior to this role, Mark was Head of Fundamental Equites at both Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and, prior to that, Blackrock.

Dane FitzGibbon

CEO, DirectorDane brings to Playfair more than 20 years of experience across finance and corporate roles, with particularly deep experience in Australian Capital Markets.
Dane spent 13 years at UBS in Australia and Asia across various roles, including five years as Co-head of Capital Markets for Australia and New Zealand. In this role Dane worked closely with corporates and investors to execute capital raising transactions across the capital spectrum, including equity, convertibles, hybrids and debt.
Dane has advised on more than 100 capital raising transactions across a broad range of industries, including both large cap and small/mid cap market segments.
Following his time with UBS, Dane moved into a senior executive role at Australian Agricultural Company, where he served as Head of Strategy and a member of the Executive Committee.
In 2020 Dane joined Jarden as a co-founder of its Australian business, playing a key role in the establishment and development of the business in Australia.

Tom Forde

Non Executive DirectorTom sits on Playfair’s Board of Directors and brings to the group broad experience across investing, funds management, corporate finance, strategy and ESG related matters.
Tom is the Chief Investment Officer of a prominent Australian family office. The family office is an active and direct investor in a multitude of asset classes covering real estate, credit, listed equities, private equity, venture capital and other alternatives.
Prior to joining the family office, Tom was an Investment Director at Tanarra Capital, where he was co-portfolio manager for their private equity division (mid-market) and CEO of their philanthropic advisory division. Before this role, he held a range of commercial and ESG related roles at BHP and PwC.
In addition, Tom has served as a Director on a number of private company Boards across a broad range of industries.

Stephen Ross

Portfolio Construction & RiskStephen spent 20 years as a fundamental Australian equities investment manager before broadening his investment focus to global markets across multiple asset classes.
Prior to Playfair, Stephen was Head of Asset Allocation at Macquarie Wealth, with responsibility for multi-asset portfolio construction and risk management. He delivered bespoke investment portfolios to Macquarie’s broad client base.
Stephen joined Macquarie as a portfolio manager in 2015, playing a key role in the development of a ‘robo-advice’ wealth management business. This broad role covered global asset allocation, stock selection, portfolio construction, and the development of automated trading algorithms.
Prior to Macquarie, Stephen was an Australian equities portfolio manager at Northward Capital and IAG, and prior to this, had portfolio manager and analyst roles at Colonial First State and Mercury Asset Management (Merrill Lynch/Blackrock).
As an analyst and portfolio manager, Stephen has covered most market sectors and has a broad knowledge of security types.

Portfolio ManagerPeter brings to Playfair more than 20 years of experience in financial markets, most recently within Credit Suisse as a Director in its global equities franchise, HOLT, where he leveraged his assurance and corporate advisory background obtained in professional services firms in both Melbourne and London.
At Credit Suisse, Peter was responsible for the coverage of Australia and New Zealand companies and listed Health Care firms across the Asia Pacific region.
In this role he provided equity advisory services and portfolio reviews, helped formulate and implement investment processes, and assisted in the development and execution of domestic and global equities strategies for some of the world’s largest pension funds, long-only institutions, and hedge funds.
Prior to Credit Suisse, Peter was a manager within the Assurance & Advisory division of HLB Mann Judd. This position traversed the fields of financial audit, risk assurance, corporate finance, and transaction services, working across a wide range of clients.

Scott Chessum

Portfolio ManagerScott has over two decades of experience in financial markets. He brings a wealth of experience to Playfair having supported a broad range of Australian Superannuation Funds and boutique equity managers.
As a Director of Credit Suisse HOLT’s global equities business, Scott leveraged his accounting, financial modelling and stock market expertise to lead the Australian business with distinction.
In this role Scott provided comprehensive equity advisory services at the company, industry and country level, while also conducting detailed client portfolio evaluations. Scott also helped to build and execute a number of successful domestic and global equities strategies catered to specific return and risk objectives.
Prior to his tenure at Credit Suisse, Scott was an Assistant Manager within KPMG’s Assurance and Advisory division (specialising in Financial Markets). He is a CFA Charterholder and a Chartered Accountant.
